Provincial killed in train crash

THE nun killed when the Liver pool-London express crashed on Friday at Weedon, Northants, was the Provincial of the Notre Dame Order in Great Britain and South Africa, Sister Marie of the Trinity.

Travelling in the Royal Scot, which halted at the wreckage, was a priest, the Rev. Dr. Francis Magauran, of Port Glasgow. He immediately came forward and gave absolution and the Papal Blessing.

Sister Marie, with her secretary, Sister Antonia, was returning to Ashdown Park, Sussex, after making a visitation of the St. Helen's convent and attending the laying of the foundation stone of the new grammar school at Eccieston.

Sister Antonia was injured, but has now been moved from hospital to a Notre Dame convent.

Sister Marie, the daughter of the late Mr. and Mrs. Michael O'Sullivan, of Juverna, Ireland, was educated at Notre Dame Convent, Plymouth, where she eventually became superior. For about four years she was superior of Notre Dame Convent, Glasgow, and became Sister Provincial five years ago.

Bishop Cowderoy presided at the Solemn Requiem Mass and burial on Wednesday at. Ashdown Park.
