John Citizen and the Law, by Ronald Rubinstein (Pelican 2s.), looks to a lawyer as though it could do nothing but mislead the lay reader and might even be a very real danger to him. Such fears are quite unfounded, for Mr. Rubenstein has written a book which is eminently readable and which does more than introduce John Citizen to the essentials of the Law in that it covers accurately practically every branch of the Law which allects the average man or woman.

Press of Cork, we have Moral Theology (by Rev. Heribert Jone, 0.1-.M.Cap., 17s, 6d.) beautifully printed and well-bound in America -which Priests and Seminarians will welcome. We do not agree with the " blurb," which reeommends it to " The Educated Laity "-for whom it is no more suitable than a medical handbook. Every man to his own business. "[his business is that of the ordained Director of Souls. Ars Aram.
The instructions given in " The Sacristan's Handbook " (Rev. B. F. Page, Si., R.O.W., 10s. 6d.), arc simple to the point of naivety, e.g., " ht the evening of Sunday there will be most probably Benediction and a Sermon '-or, at Christmas. "the colour is of course white
the finest possible... everything of
the best."
It is not absolutely true that " without an altar no Mass can he celebrated anywhere at any time." What hat about midnight at Buchen The antependium for Benediction is not " always white " and Ise Page himself explains why (cf.
pp. 141-142). If " the tabernacle mast at all times be covered by a veil." it is hard to see how "it may Ire hat-topped and the altar crucifix may stand on it." Fr. Page proceeds to state that " the veil should he a tent-like covering that hides the whole tabernacle, top. front, back, and sides." For such discrepancies and other 'reasons we regret that this " Third Edition" has not been pruned and revised.
Christ's Way (Douglas Organ. 79. 6d.). excellently set forth in pithy meditations by Mother Mary Simeon, S.H.C.J., is so suitable to " grown-ups " that the next edition should delete all references to school life and, especially. to school girls! A Sentence like: " Is my last action ii tossing of my dance frock carelessly oser my chair ?" may " put off ' many who would profit by a sane and simple guide to Mental Prayer,
