The Penal Tribunal of Rome on Monday (May 24) sentenced the manager of the Communist newspaper, Unita, Francesco Rinaldini, to 14 months' imprisonment and a fine of 150.000 lire (about £65) for libel against Mgr. Francesco Roberti.
Mgr. Roberti. who holds a number of curial offices, is president of the Vatican Financial Commission. He brought a libel suit for an article published by Unita on April 15 charging him with complicity in illegal financial operations and with fraud.
