BISHOP Cormac Murphy O'Connor of Arundel and Brighton has launched an appeal for a printing press for a rural diocese in Peru in memory of a *Sussex priest who died in tragic circumstances last year in the South American country.
Fr Jeremy Lear, a priest of the Arundel diocese and a former secretary to the bishop, was working in the remote Peruvian diocese of Chuluoanas, when he was killed in a motor accident. In consultation with the local Peruvian bishop, Bishop Cormac Murphy O'Connor
decided that a printing press would be a fitting memorial to a priest who was also a talented journalist. It is hoped that the £2 1,5 0 0 press will help communications in the remote areas of Peru, and will enable educational and catechetical material to be passed from village to village.
Already some £13,500 has been raised by Catholics in Arundel and Brighton, and any further donations should be sent to Bishop's House, Upper Drive, Hove, East Sussex.
