BRENTWOOD

The Rev. John Dempsey, formerly curate at Ilford, was recently canonically inducted as the new parish priest of Silvertown.

Mgr. O'Grady, representing the Bishop, presided at the ceremony in SS. Mary and Edward's Church. In his subsequent discourse he referred to a great tradition established in Silvertown by Mgr. Canon Ring, the founder of the mission, and continued by the late Canon Fitzpatrick. Mgr. O'Grady said he knew that Fr. John Dempsey, whom he had known for many years, would be a zealous and worthy successor to those who had been parish priests before him.
