Figures just published show that the population of Rome has grown from 138,730 in 1825 to 1,790,638 at the end of last October. It has trebled in just ocr 50 years. The first increase was observe4 about 1850. The growth was more rapid attsr Rome had become the capital of Italy.
In 1850 the population was 170,824. BY 1871 it had grown to 244.484 and in 1901 it had reached 462.783.
In the first 10 years of this century another 100,000 were added and the following 10 years a furthei 150.000.
