Rome's historic Capranica College--which in modern times has had among its students the future Pope Benedict XV and the present Holy Father, eight Cardinals and 48 Archbishops and Bishops was formally re-opened last week by Cardinal Canali after its reconstruction.
During the Sack of Rome in 1527, all the students at the college died in defending the Pope in the Castel Sant'Angelo.
Solemn Pontifical Mass was celebrated at the re-opening by Archbishop Carinci. the very actiae 93year-old Secretary of the Sacred Congregation of Rites. who was Rector of the Capranica Colllege in 1894 when one of the students was Eugenio Pacelli — the present Pope.
