Orthodox at Paris consecration

A NUMBER of Orthodox pre

lates. with 25 Catholic Bishops. attended the consecration of Cardinal Feltin's new Auxiliary Bishop in Paris, Mgr. Rupp, in the Paris Basilica of St. Denis during the Chair of Unity Octave.

The consecration was the first ever to be held in the famous medieval Flasilicir of St. Denis.

Newspapers have remarked on the historical and symbolic significance of the occasion.

They pointed out that St. Denis, first Bishop of Paris, came from the East to evangelise Gaul and that it was on the site of his tomb that a Western Bishop was given the mission of caring for the religious needs of the thousands of Eastern Rite Catholics now living in France.

Bishop Rupp will assist Cardinal Feltin in his capacity as Ordinary of Eastern Rite Catholics in France.

In the congregation at the ceremony were a representative of M. Mendes-France. a number of Cabinet Ministers, and the ambassadors of Canada. Germany, Austria, Belgium. Luxemnourg. Spain, Ireland, the Philippines and the Dominican Republic.

Prince Paul of Yugoslavia, an Orthodox, and Prince Xavier of Bourbon-Parma, head of one of the branches of the Royal Family of France. whose ancestors are buried in the Basilica, were also present.
