CARDINAL SAYS:

'Asia may erupt at any time 9

' IT is my personal opinion that the Asian mainland is a volcano and it may erupt at any time," said Cardinal Spellman on his return to New York last week after a tour of the Far East in which he covered 29.000 miles in 29 days.

How, when and where the eruption would take place the Cardinal said he did not know.

"But." he declared, unless we get through God and His mercy, and through prayer and penance, strong leadership and co-operation, goodwill and understanding, 1 have grave fears for the future."

"The situation in Asia is very grave because there is no indication of any change in attitude on the part of the aggressor." "Each year since I've been going to the Far East, the area of the free world has become smaller and smaller.

"There is absolutely no sign of the aggressor's change in attitude. even in conversation. They still call us imperialists and warmongers.

"Yet in the Philippines we have the perfect refutation to all Soviet charges. Amcrica guided the Philippines to independence and the Filipino nation is grateful to America."
