Wales and the Church

Sir.--May I, as a regular reader of your newspaper and a recent convert to your faith (a Welshman by birth) express my thanks for the article on "Welsh and Scottish Nationalism" by Henry Edwards.

After much wandering and experience of life in foreign countries

return to my native heath and am become convinced of the need Wales has for her independence. It is obvious to me now that the indifference of many neonle resident in South Wa,es to Welsh nationalism is due to the fact that they have English or other foreign blood in their veins and speak chiefly English. What is more, the activities of the Welsh Nationalist Party are not sufficiently publicised in the Welsh mining districts. Wales needs her own leaders of the calibre of David Eloyd-George (not of the Bevan type). She needs her own administrative capital. her own freely-elected Perliarnent with full control over Welsh affairssocial. economic. political and cultural. She needs her own national independence, because without it the will gradually lose her national self-conscionsness. and her self-resnect as e separate and ancient nation. She newt work throtteh and thrt,,n.b with Fnelend. het she is. nevertheless. not Fnelish She must never allow her ancient lenguage or culture to die. She is W.Irs. a livine ',coffin. and she is entitled to her independence.

I would like the whole everts' to be shown the ennititions of housing and indoors wheel still eVICi in the vollcVs of indlistrial South Wales. They are a first-class eearntile of the results of the cenita list system st its best. most profitable extreme! They are a hreecline-ground for communism. presenting the Communist Party, as they do. with a source of' nronaganda, and the teachings of Marx are as well knowe here as are the teachinos of the Christ. They are the result of English and American exploitation. and Welsh industrialists

Welsh Catholic.
