Tunisian President Bourguiba discussed the status of Jerusalem with Pope Paul during an unofficial visit to the Vatican last week.
The President said that Pope Paul wished for the internationalisation of the city, whose holy places are sacred to Jews. Moslems and Christians.
"But there are Arab countries which prefer another formula, for example the formation of a municipal council presided over in turn by a Christian, a Moslem and a Jew," M. Bourguiba said.
He said that the whole problem depended on the Israeli government. "It depends on whether Israel wants to make peace and content herself with what has been granted to her by IhL United Nations or whether she wishes to continue to drag her feet and respect neither the decisions of the U.N. nor America.
President Rourgniba had a 45-minute talk with Pope Paul in the Pontiff's library before making an unscheduled visit to St. Peter's Basilica. Ile later met Italian President Giovanni
