"The Catholic Bishops of America have repeatedly voiced their protests against the ruthless oppression of the Polish people." stated Mgr. Hoban, Coadjutor Bishop of Cleveland. speaking at a National Convention of the Catholic League in Cleveland during this month.

"They have recalled that no nation has given such generous assistance and lojol devotion to the cause of flu! Allies as did Poland. They have cautioned the world that the treatment Of Polandiin post-war reconstruction will be a rest of sincerity. and an indication whether the peace of the world rill be just and enduring or whether the world shall he at war again before nratty

years shall pass.

"Poland is destined to play an important role in effecting a moral and Christian rebirth of Europe," the

Bishop said. " Poland must once again become a centre of high Christian culture. a stronghold of faith. Its faith must illumine the way through life for other nations in I irnes to come. Poland must not only be restored to its position as an Eastern stronghold of Christian civilisation, but it must also become the spiritual powerhouse for apostolic work and reach out to countries that now attempt to subjugate her."

The religious status of the people in Russia must not be accepted with resignation, Bishop Hoban warned. " We must, plan and make serious efforts to re-Christianise those peoples."
