The dedication of the last Sunday in October to the festival of Christ the King has added to the liturgical calendar its most important feast day in recent years. Among the chief promoters of this feast a prominent name is that of the late Marthe de Noaillat, a Frenchwoman, who devoted her time and energy to the endeavour, ultimately crowned with success, to have such a festival proclaimed.

Wednesday, November 1. ALL. SAINTS. Holiday of Obligation.
Thursday, November 2. All Souls.
The feast of All Souls is a day when three Masses are said. A popular observance, in Catholic countries especially, takes the form of visits to the cemeteries and care for the last resting-places of the dead.

In to-day's feast the Church honours one of the most famous saints of the .
sixteenth century. St. Charles : Borromeo, Archbishop of Milan, and a Cardinal, entered the ecclesiastical state when only a youth; he was but .; twenty-three when Pope Pius IV" bestowed upon him the archbishopricand raised him to the Sacred College.
By his piety and austerity, his work for reform, his love of the poor and his ministry to the plague-stricken, he became all but worshipped, by his Milanese flock. St. Charles died on November 4, 1584. His relies are in a magnificent shrine beneath the high altar of Milan Cathedral.
