A LETTER of mine, Oct 16, concerning the plight of Czechoslovak Prisoners of Conscience such as Fr Frantisek Lizna et al, provoked an astonishing and heart-warming response from Japan.
A priest (whom I take to be Japanese) wrote and sent 5,000 yen (about f12) for Catholic dissidents in Czechoslovakia, as a result of reading the coverage of the trial of Fr Lizna and my letter.
I sent the money to the Cardiff Amnesty group who have Josef Adamek as their adoption and they were very grateful. Fr Tadhg 0 Grainne says he is a regular reader of the Catholic Herald. although English is not his native language.
The Church is indeed universal, would that the concern for persecuted Christians shown by Japan was also universal.
