MEMBERS of a Chile action group staged a three-day vigil and service at St Martin-in-the-Fields church. London. last week, in protest against the visit to Britain of the Chilean Minister of Labour, Mr Miguel Kast.
Mr Kast, who addressed the Latin American Trade Advisory Group at the Hilton Hotel, refused to discuss the case of disappeared people with Chilean exiles.
Members of the London-based Committee of Relatives of Disappeared Detainees held the vigil in the crypt of St Martin's, and a service in the main church. One member, Berenice Dockendorf, listened to a
represehtative of Amnesty International reading a poem by her sister, Muriel. who disappeared in 1974.
The opposition spokesman on legal affairs. Mr Peter Archer MP, visited the vigil. He is an exchairman of Amnesty International, and has taken up the case of William Beausire, a businessman who disappeared in Chile last year.
The vigil was also supported by Mrs Kathy Piper, the representative for Latin America of the Catholic Institute for International Relations, and by the Home, Latin American and Caribbean section of the British Council of Churches.
