Currency dispute

MOTHER TERESA, the Nobel peace prize winner, and several other missionaries face investigation for alleged breaches of currency laws in Italy. The missionaries have been using the Vatican bank to store contributions to their charities. But it is now being disputed whether the Vatican bank is a foreign bank or not. If it is not, the missionaries may be found guilty of moving money to other countries in breach of the regulations.

Forgiveness

THE MOTHER of Mehmet All Agca, convicted of the attempted murder of Pope John Paul II, recently sent a letter to the Pope asking "forgiveness and pity" for her son, according to a magazine published in Milan. The Vatican has made no comment on the report.

College appeal

ABOUT 250 Catholics attended a reception on Wednesday in Manchester Town Hall in support of the appeal for the Venerable English College, Rome. Among those present was the Apostelic Delegate, Archbishop Bruno Heim, Archbishop Derek Worlock of Liverpool and the Rector of the college in Rome, Monsignor Hay.
