ber, D.C.L., has been elected Superior General of the . Missionary Society of St. Columban (Maynooth Mission to China). The new Superior General was elected by the General Chapter of the 1,100 strong Society meeting at St Colurnban's College, Daglan Park. Navan. He is aged 43.

A native of Buffalo, New York, Fr Steinhilber joined the Columban Fathers in the U.S. in 1947. He was ordained priest at St Columban's, Nebraska. in 1951. He holds the degree, Doctor in Canon Law, from the Gregorian University in Rome, Fr Steinhilber was a professor at St Columban's Seminary, Milton, Mass., and was active in giving retreats. In 1967 he became Superior of the Coluni. ban Missionary Society in the U.S,

The Missionary Society of St Columban has missions in Burma, Fiji, Korea, Japan Philippines, Peru and Chile. Its headquarters in Britain are al St. Columban's, Widney Manor Road, Solihull, Warwicks.
