Farewell to Fr. Joe

Keywords: Religion / Belief

FROM this week onwards the friendly Midland accents of Fr. Joe Davis, M.S.F.S., will be missing from the telephone at the Catholic Information Office. Fr. Joe, aged 41, has been assisting the Catholic Press Officer, David Miles-Board, for a year. Now the Provincial of the Fransalian Order has recalled him for other work.

Certainly Fr. Joe's efficiency

and co-operation have been appreciated by journalists of Church and secular papers. Despite the hectic routine of a Press office and a serious back injury from which he is now almost recovered, he remained doggedly cheerful. Occasionally he had a few caustic things to say about the mysterious workings of the Vatican Press office.

He says he has thoroughly enjoyed his year at the Catholic Information Office, which he looks upon as the shop window of the Church in this country. "I'm leaving the office convinced that the best day's work the bishops did was to set up the Press office, and I reckon the Church owes a big debt of gratitude to David Miles-Board for its success."
