HOLY YEAR OFFICIALLY PROCLAIMED

VATICAN CITY.

The Pope officially proclaimed 1950 to be a Holy Year, yesterday, Ascension Day.

He received the personnel of the Apostolic Chamber, the Apostolic Chancellery, and of the Prefecture of the Pontifical Ceremonies. He then authorised the reading of the Papal Bull in the four major basilicas of Rome.

Mgr. Alfonso Cannel, Dean of Apostolic Pronotaries, read the Bull first in the Portico of St. Peter's before the whole Chapter of the Vatican Basilica. Immediatdly afterwards, it was read at the Basilica of St. Paul-Outside-theWalls.

In a slightly less solemn ceremony, the Bull was read in the afternoon at the Besilicas of St. Mary Major and St. John Lateran.
