—SAYS FR. BASSET, S.J.
A call for a change in the whole technique of Catholic Action was made by Fr. Bernard Basset, S.J., when he lectured at the Sheffield Memorial Hall, on Friday last, under the auspices of the Sheffield Catholic Teachers' Association and Catholic Parents' and Electors' Association.
" It is believed that the Catholics in this country number three million," said Fr. Basset. "That to my mind is nonsense. We are at least five million strong, and with the lax and lapsed must be nearly ten million. In other words, we have grown front a small defensive minority into the strongest single block of public opinion in the nation. And it is time we altered our whole technique of Catholic Action to suit the changed conditions."
Our field of work. he said, should now lie among the 36 million outside the Church, threequarters of whom were pagans in the sense that they bad neither knowledge of Cod nor conscience. and therefore no standard of conduct.
