Funeral for Dali at local church

CATHOLIC artist Salvador Dali y Domenech was buried on Wednesday in the Spanish town of Figuera, following a funeral in the local Holy Father church. The 84-year-old Dali is best remembered for his surrealist paintings, although he also cowrote a film screenplay and provided illustrations for an American advertising campaign.

In the late 1940s he returned the Spain after spending the war years in California and his work entered a religious phase, when he was influenced by the lives of St Teresa of Avila and St John of the Cross.
