ANOTHER CLAIMANT

With reference to a paragraph last week reporting•the death qf Mr. James Carson, described as the first Irishman to win the V.C. in the last war, we are informed by a reader that the late Lt. Maurice Deere, of the Royal Fusiliers, gained the V.C. on August 23, 1914. It is contended that he was the first Irishman to win the award in the last war.
