THE appointment of Fr. Benedict Singh to be auxiliary Bishop of Georgetown, Guyana, makes him the first local Guyanese to attain episcopal rank. He becomes auxiliary to British-born Bishop R. L. Guilly, S.J.
Guyana is a largely Jesuit mission, and dependent on the English Province. Fr. Singh is a secular priest who went to the Jesuit high school in Georgetown and studied for the priesthood in Rome.
