"Bingo" May Not Benefit Buffalo Churches

—Says Bishop
" Bingo " parties for the benefit of Catholic churches and institutions have been banned by the Bishop of Buffalo, U.S.A., Mgr. John Duffy.
Mgr. Duffy announced the ban at a recent diocesan synod.
Besides " Bingo," other games of chance have also been forbidden as a method of raising funds in the diocese. Several churches which had arranged " Bingo " parties had to cancel them hastily.
" Bingo " is a game of chance much favoured in the United States and Canada. Each player is dealt a card. The cards are marked with a set of numbers, but no two cards are identical. Numbers are called out, and the first player to have all the numbers called out on his card, wins.
Players pay for their cards (usually one dollar a card) and the winner takes the money, or a proportion of it. When used to raise church funds the winner gets only a proportion of the money, or a box of chocolates, etc.
