ADOPT EUROPE'S CHILDREN

—SAYS MGR. GRIFFIN
" To-day, 1 want to thank you for all you have done to help to gain the victory, and to ask you to ,coneinue your grand work for the Church and for our country,'' said Archbishop Griffin to a vast audience of school children in Westminster Cathedral Iasi week when a children's Mass of thanksgiving for victorious peace was celebrated.
" You hove come here to thank our Blessed Lord for victory and for our deliverance; to thank Him for victory over our enemies, and that He has been pleased to bless our cause : to thank Him for our deliverance, because timing the war, more than once, this country has been in great danger. That is why so many of you had to lease your homes and go into the country. Today we shall thank our Lord for the glorious deeds of our heroes, the men in the Navy. Army and Air Force. For many of you this 'will mean your own father and your own brothers.
" I should like to recall the story of one of the V.C.s of this diocese, FlightOfficer Donald Garland, who was an old boy of the Cardinal Vaughan School. 1-le piloted the leading aircraft which attacked and destroyed a vital bridge over the Albert Canal. Where did he get his courage and strength from 7 He was a pious Catholic boy he said his prayers well, and received the Sacraments very often. "So he became a great hero.
" You will thank our Lord for being free now to return to your home in safety and I know many of you will be praying that you will soon have your fathers back, and your brothers and Sisters. And you are thanking our Lord in the very best way possible, by coming to Holy Mass and by taking an active part in offering the sacrifice of the Mass to Almighty God. .
WINNING PEACE
" Now that you have taken such a wonderful share in winning victory, I am going to ask you to take an even greater part in winning the peace. You remember the story of St. George and the Dragon 7 Ile was not content with killing the dragon but he released the Princess; and it would look very foolish if we were only going to win a victory and then forget all aboul those people and those countries whom we have fought to save. The Princess would not have been very happy if she had been left in her chains. Neither will it be much consolation for , the countries for which we went to war if we leave them in their chains.
" So you want to discover now what you can do to help to win the peace. First of all, you can pray, and your prayers will be all-powerful with 'Almighty God. But you know that prayer means more than this. It means doing all we have to do for Him. We must be loyal to our Blessed Lord, like true soldiers. We must be kind to our neighbours. We must tell the truth and promise to keep our word. The whole cause of this war was because people could • not tell the truth and they would not keep their word; and they were very selfish and they were disloyal to Gods
" You cart pray specially for those -children who do not know our Lord. who have been taught to hate Him; who five in countries where they arc not allowed to go to Holy Mass, or to receive Holy Communion.
" During the war, some schools adopted a ship. Why not adopt the
children of a country 7 Poland, France, Belgium. Holland, Italy, Russia, China Germany ? You can help them with your prayers. Pray especially that they will be taught to know and love our Lord; and pray that they will not suffer the horrors of starvation."
