the justice to allow me to make a belated comment on Fr. Charles Davis' sneering dismissal of The Future of Catholic Christianity.
Fr. Davis grossly overestimates the stupidity of his readers if he imagines that they can any longer believe so simply that the Church's dogmatic decisions are "irrevocable" and "irreversible" when at this very moment what has been the Church's constant teaching about contraception has been under review for nearly two years.
When f became a Catholic I never thought to see a Professor of Dogmatic Theology defend the teaching authority of the Church with arguments which are demonstrably false. If seminary teaching is of this quality can it he wondered that some of the laity find the clergy ill equipped to help answer the questions they are asking?
