Other members of the conference said. however, that preference for the children of practising families would not be automatic.
• In Leeds last week Bishop Dwyer said that the City's Catholic schools were prepared to co-operate with the local education authority's plan to reorganise secondary education in the City.
But the three Catholic grammar schools in the centre of the c:ty are not big enough to become comprehensives, he said. "Therefore we would expect them to he able to continue until sufficiently large buildings are built elsewhere".
