Strood striders aid nomads

FOUR MEN from Strood, in Kent, are embarking on a four day walk to Walsingham on Saturday to raise funds for a mission in Kenya.

The walk has been organised by Richard Ashley, Senior Lecturer in Civil Engineering at Thames Polytechnic. He was inspired to form a Justice and Peace Group in Strood after finding himself in the Justice Group at the National Pastoral Congress.

Other participants will he Enrico horani, whose work with the Crown Agents gives him a unique insight into the problems of developing nations. Donal Gallagher ON. and Fr Geoffrey Pointer, of English Martyrs church, Strood.

All the sponsorship money will go to support the Moyale Mission in Kern a. I he mission is devoted to the settlement of a nomadic tribe in a desert area, where there are problems of famine, drought, shortage of food and shelter, and disease.

There is a shortage of medical supplies and staff, and Catholic Relief Service has run out of funds for the project.
