Build my House. A musical Parable by the Grail. Logan Hall, University of London.
• 1 HIS WORK was originally cortqabsed as a 'fringe event for the National Pastoral Congress in Liverpool, where it received great acclaim.
The story emphasises the need to listen to God when building community, and its appropriateness to the NPC was immediately evident. Divorced from its original setting, the message lost a little of its bite, but there was still a sting in the tail.
Self-righteousness, and the curse of committees were only two of the themes which were criticised with brilliant irony and wit.
The Grail community are never short of talent, and Gill Simpson, who only recently joined them, is obviously determined to help them keep that reputation, The script, music and lyrics were mainly her work, Felicity Elwes, I feel, deserves praise for the sheer professionalism of the mime and dance sequences.
Build my House was very much a team effort, and it would he invidious to highlight individual "stars" in the performance. But perhaps this is part of the message.
