When to be shriven

by MAUREEN VINCENT Children and Confession by F. J. Heggen (Sheed and Ward Stagbooks 9s.) IN recent years there has been

great deal of thought and discussion about the religious education of young children. One of the chief topics of interest in this connection has been the age at which a child should first approach the sacraments of confession and communion.

Parents and teachers will be aware that changes are being made in some dioceses in this country. In the diocese of Roerrnond, in the Netherlands important and controversial changes were introduced in 1964, as a result of a special commission set up to study the problem of children's confession and communion.

This book is a translation of the one written to explain these changes to parents and teachers. The whole background to the decision to make the changes is described. The part which parents should take in the preparation of their children for the sacraments is stressed.
