Chelsea will keep Feast of Bl. John Larke

For the first time in Chelsea, where he was Rector from 15301544. the Feast of Blessed John Larke, Martyr, will be celebrated, by special grant of the Holy See, in the Church of Our Most Holy Redeemer and St. Thomas More, Cheyne Row, on Friday, March 11.
There will be High Mass at 8 p.m., with a sermon by Fr. Alfonso de Zulueta, parish priest.
Blessed John was parish priest of St. Thomas More, who as Lord Chancellor presented him to the living. He appears to have taken the Oath of Supremacy in 1534, but, as Cresaere More puts it. " the example of St. Thomas More's death so wrought on his mind that afterwards he followed his own sheep and suffered a famous martyrdom."
In March, 1544, he was tried and found guilty of " attempting to deprive our King of his royal dignity, title and state, that is, of his title as Supreme Head of the English and Irish Church."
