Fines For " Disaffection"
The following official notice appeared in Valladolid papers of September 10:
" The Civil Governor has imposed the following fines: On Dona Filar Ces Perel for manifestation of disaffection to the regime, 100 pesetas, and on Dona. Dolorez Gonzalez Cabralcs, for giving alms in the street, 10 pesetas. (The Nationalist peseta is worth about 5d.) "
The correspondent from Valladolid who sends us the original cutting adds : " There is no need for anyone to beg in liberated Spain, and those who give alms in the street arc fined for their pains,"
Red propagandists (who tell us that disaffection in Nationalist Spain is punished by death or torture, instead of fines of two guineas) please copy.
Let them also copy the remark of a Thnes correspondent who writes: " It seems absurd that the Government peseta, with a heavy gold backing, should be worth today only approximately half of what is obtainable for the Franco peseta, merely a piece of
paper. this relation really representative of confidence in international circles that General Franco must win?"
