NICARAGUAN President, Daniel Ortega, has lifted a ban on news broadcasts by a Catholic radio station and will allow 10 foreign priests to return, expelled in 1984 on charges of plotting against the government. The Commission for Social Work of the Archdiocese of Managua, shut down in 1985, will also be reopened.
IRELAND'S first mosque will be a stone's throw from the famous Catholic shrine at Knock in Co Mayo. The £1 million needed for the mosque, currently being constructed on bogland at Ballhaunis, has been raised by the head of a local Moslem commune. When finished it will accommodate 230 worshippers.
