Pope to miss South Africa

SOUTH AFRICA has been excluded from the itinerary for a tour by the Pope round the southern part of the continent, planned for late this year or 1984.

The trip was confirmed this week by Cardinal Alexandre do Nascimento of Lubango, Angola.

Countries the Pope will visit include Zimbabwe, Zambia, Mozambique and possibly Angola and Madagascar.

Other trips planned this year are to Lourdes in August and Austria in September.

In 1984, trips are expected to the Far East (South Korea, Thailand and possibly Vietnam), Switzerland, Canada and Latin America (Venezuela, Colombia, Peru and Ecuador).
