Liturgy of Slays

In your issue of August IQ. H. W. J. Edwards tries to blind us with "historical" science when he mentions Pope John VIII and Pope Stephen and their decrees concerning the Slav Liturgy. There is a vast difference between the background to these decrees and the introduction of the Missa Normativa.
I think that H. W. J. Edwards has a bee in his bonnet about the Missa Normativa, It is important to bear in mind that the Missa Normativa is not the result of a hasty decision on the part of the Holy See. The bishops of the Church assembled together in the Second Vatican Council for obvious pastoral reasons paved the way for this reform of the sacred Liturgy. In all this we can discern the action of the Holy Spirit: the fruits of the liturgical reforms are clear and show themselves in a special way in increased attendance at Mass and Holy Communion.
Pope Paul has carried out the wishes of the bishops and laity in this matter of liturgical reform. Let me quote the words of the pastoral letter of the Dutch Bishops on the occasion of the tenth anniversary of Pope Paul VI: "Moreover the Papal Office is more than any other authority the carrier and public interpreter of the living tradition within the Catholic Church."
