St Teresa's hospital up for sale TWO PRIVATE and longestablished
hospitals run by Catholic nuns face major changes in the near future.
St Teresa's maternity hospital, in Wimbledon, is owned by the Sisters of St Anne, a nursing order which has been running the hospital for the past 48 years. The Sisters, nine of whom work in the hospital at present, announced their decision to put the private hospital up for sale last week.
Expressing their "deep regret" at the imminent sale, the Sisters of St Anne state that their decision was necessitated by "the changing needs of the community". Although the hospital's matron, Mrs M T Bonnett, would not disclose the projected sale figure, she told the Catholic Herald that the sisters plan to remain "in the community.
A second hospital owned and run by Catholic nuns, St Anthony's, in Cheam, will also soon undergo an important change: as of April, 1987, the Daughters of the Cross will open a hospice.
