"WHERE IS THAT PRIEST?"

Under the heading Where is that priest?" the " Catholic Herald " made, last week, +he suggestion that all Catholic churches should be listed together in telephone directories under the title " Catholic Church, followed immediately by the address.

Example: Catholic Church, Acto,

Acorn 2014.

Catholic Church, Bayswater

. .. Bayswater 0487.

Catholic Church, Chelsea

Kensington 5487.

A pries+ correspondent (page 6) writes that the reason why priests do not put " Catholic Church " instead of their own names is that " the telephone people charge 15s. a year extra for That (on the curious ground that it 1 a trade address)."

The " Catholic Herald " made inquiries on this point to an official at the G.P.O.

He replied that no extra charge was made for putting " Catholic Church " instead of the name of the priest, and added that the Post Office did not consider the Church to be a " trade."

This being so, there seems no reason why this suggestion should not be put into force, as so many Catholics have experienced the inconvenience of being unable to telephone the Catholic church in a strange district because they did not know the name of the church or of the priest.
