Musical Monument
A History of Music in Pictures. Edited by George Kinsky (Dent, 12s. (id.). This is a cheap reprint of an expensive and monumental work of musical iconography, covering everything from Babylonian reliefs of lute players to a Picasso sketch of Stravinsky, and boasting fifteen hundred illustrations.
It suffers a little by appearing in layout rather like a last century's encyclopaedia and it has rather the dim airlessness of a museum but withal there is the museum's exciting power of discovery and instruction.
