Fantastically belated red arrows

I SPEND so much of my time in taxis, minicabs and aeroplanes, you'll have to forgive them popping up so often in my thoughts. Those of you who've been to London recently will, I'm sure, have noticed that almost every second taxi has a red sticker or transfer design on both side windows. As any einemagoer knows, ever since hansom cabs became London taxis, the windows went up and down acording to whether you
pushed or pulled the helpful little ledge of finger grip at the top of the window itself. The cabs have become roomier, flashier and dearer but the windows have remained the same. Now I want to meet the man who has sold these designs to so many taxi-drivers. He must surely be on his way to his first million. In effect, he has sold them two little painted arrows, one pointing up, the other pointing down. Fantastic!
