World famous expert on Indian history dies 0 NE of the world's greatest experts on Indian history, Fr. Heras, Si., a Spaniard, died in Bombay last week at the age of 67.

Heras did much for the principle of missionary accommodation. helping to produce a sincere]) national Christianity, a Christianity wedded to all the best elements in Indian culture and traditions.
Fr. Heras held the view, sa Archbishop Roberts, that St. Thomas the Apostle really did go to India, and very probable St. Bartholomew, too.
Founder and director of the Indian Historical Research Institute, Fr. Heras was also for many years Professor of Ancient Indian History at St. Francis Xavier's College, Bombay. He had a wide command of Indian languages and dialects. His most famous works were "Studies in Prim) Indo-Mediterranean Culture " and " The Aravidu Dynasty of Vijasanagara."
Fr, Heras was a member of the Senate of Bombay University, vicepresident of the Bombay branch of the Royal Asiatic Society, a member of the Indian Historical Records Commission, and of the International Committee of Historical Sciences.
