Bishop killed in Lebanon

T H E assistant Maronite Catholic bishop of the Beka'a Valley, Rubs Jerios Sehlani, was murdered in Lebanon on Monday along with his nephew.
Bishop Sehlani died in the village of Aitanit in the troubled Beka'a, not far from his home. A spokesman for the Lebanese government in London said that no motive for the double killing had yet emerged. Ile refused to speculate whether the religious element in Lebanon's brutal civil
war had played a part.
Meanwhile in Beirut, the Archbishop of Canterbury's special envoy, Terry Waite, said earlier this week that he had "taken a very important step" towards securing the release of four American hostages held by the Islamic Jihad group. The four include the Servite Fr Lawrence Jenco, who was seized in January on his way to work as director of the Catholic Relief Service in the divided capital.
