Unsung saints in action

I READ with interest the article by Murray White on prison chaplains {Catholic Herald May 15).

The list of unsung saints grows every day, happily: while others may approach the Catholic community with a wary if not snide eye in these days of Bishop Casey, what satisfaction it is to be a Catholic when we learn of truly heroic lives as those depicted in your "Church in Action" series.

For those of us who work or deal with non-Catholics, and who have to endlessly explain that no. not every priest wants to marry and not every bishop keeps a mistress, it is very important to read about the wonderful dedication with which some of our religious give themselves up for fellow-men.
