EXHIBITION OF RUSSIAN ICONS

Icon collecting, or the wish to possess at least one, has increased enormously during the last few years and this year's Icon Exhibition at the Mark Gallery, Porchester Place, Marble Arch, is specially designed to meet the needs of both established collectors and those who are just beginning.

There are 80 icons of very high quality, with subjects ranging from the popular "Resurrection and Descent into Hell with the Twelve Cardinal Feasts of the Church", through to "St George and the Dragon", the ever beloved "St Nicholas the Miracle Worker", to the more serious subjects of the "Decollation of St John", "The Last Supper", "Transfiguration", "Angel Gabriel", "Fiery Ascent of the Prophet Elijah" and many others.

The appeal of the icons lies principally in the subject, the mystery, colour, composition, the beautiful workmanship and the tranquillity and repose which they exude as a contrast to the stress of modern life.
