1 Inside, at the Duchess Theatre, has one distinguishing feature. It is probably the shortest show any West End Theatre has dared to put on this year at West End prices. The night I was there it lasted little more than I1 hours, minus an interval of some ten or 12 minutes. If theatregoers are honestly expected to turn out for this, they should be forewarned that unlike the three-hour musical spectacle at the nearby Drury Lane Theatre (which doesn't charge all that much more than the Duchess Theatre), this is certainly no night out.
It is the sort of stuff thrown in with other attractions at a mediocre night club. It might just make it for the annual staff party or reunion dinner. A gentleman in a sort of M.C. role pesters the audience for laughs before and after each fleeting sketch, finally urging the audience to have "lots of drinks" in the interval "to get in the swing of things".
Amanda Barrie, a leggy pantomime pixy in tights, does her best as the wide-eyed innocent of the evening, but as most of the supporting material has been frequently churned out or thrown out by TV and TWTWTW, it draws nothing more than a titter.
