A BURGLAR who targeted a church in Bedfordshire was overpowered by three priests in their 60s, two of whom had undergone triple heart bypass operations.
Fr Jimmy Shiel, 67, Fr Kieran Magovern, 66, and Fr Chacko Panathara, 61, confronted the 28-year-old intruder at 2 am at St Mary’s church in Dunstable and within hours were back celebrating Mass and conducting baptisms.
Fr Magovern said: “He was no match for the three of us. The chap was trying to break free and escape but with the three of us on top of him he was going nowhere.” The thief was held down by the three men after Fr Shiel, a former rugby captain, tackled him to the ground.
