The Forgotten Paraclete SIR,-In replying to Miss Widgeny ' s query about

saying the Rosary during Mass, you state that at present the decree of Leo XIII ordering the saying of the Rosary in October, either at Mass or at Benediction, is still in force. May I ask why Leo XIIEs decree that "throughout the whole Catholic Church, this year and every subsequent year, a Novena shall take place before Whitsunday in all parish churches" is no longer generally observed? In fact, it is quite exceptional to find a church where the Novena is made.

Is this the reason why there is so little devotion to the Divine Spouse of Our Blessed Lady and can anyone doubt that she herself would have it otherwise?

The Pentecostal Novena for the "Reunion of Christians" is very much to be recommended, but It is not prescribed, as is the recitation of the Rosary. Public observance of the Novena gives a 10-year indulgence daily and a plenary indulgence if kept for at least five days.
