CURFEW FOR CHILDREN?

Better housing a better answer : Jesuit Rector

TN his latest news-letter Fr. Henry 'Waterhouse, S.J., Rector of St. Francis Xavier's, Liverpool, comments on the proposal that there should he a compulsory nation-wide curfew for boys and girls.

"Before I could support such a scheme," says Fr. Waterhouse, "I should want to know what to recommend to harassed parents who are still waiting for a decent house and who cannot arrange till after suppertime the beds of the children who have to sleep in the kitchen.

"It is hard to say that, in the meantime, they are better cooped up inside than enjoying the fresh air and exercise they can get in the street.

"I yield to none in pity for the youngsters who are to be found outside at 10 o'clock and later; but I am sure that the answer to the problem of better supervision lies in better housing, more parental control, not less; and fewer laws. not more."

Degree for Dulles

Mr. John Foster Dulles. U.S. Secretary of State, will receive an honorary degree next month from the Jesuit University of Georgetown.
