The Confidence Tricksters

Soviet Communism The Facts, by the Rev. Paul Crane, S.J. (Fallon, 2s.).

WITHOUT a doubt, Communism's post as the champion of the proletariat and of colonial people is the most amazing confidence trick of the century. Even now, notwithstanding the disillusionment which has overtaken millions of its former devotees, and despite the fact that Cornmunism is demonstrably a synonym for 20th century imperialism and contempt for the working class, the Left (which prides itself on being the vanguard of the

struggle for working-class and colonial emancipation) stubbornly refuses to believe that Khrushchey and Mao arc not on the side of the angels of Progress.

If proof were required that Communism is still able to get away with murder (and mass murder at that). it was provided by the incurably unilateralist Lord Russell when he proclaimed that Nehru's India had been guilty of aggression against Red China.

"Soviet Communism" is an invaluable reference book for those who have continually to contend with the mine who seem incapable of getting off Lord Russell's wavelength.
