Herald readers asked to campaign

WE WOULD BE grateful for people to write letters to the Mexican Ambassador in London or Lic. Carlos Salinas Gortari, Presedente de la Republica, Palacia Nacional, 06067 Mexico DF on behalf of Manuel Manriquez San Agustin, a 41 year old Mexican, who is married with six children, and who has been given a 24 year prison sentence for the murder of a man he has never seen and whose name he does not know.
Manuel is a musician. He is an Otomo Indian and at the time of his arrest he did not speak or read Spanish. He therefore could not understand the questions or the papers that he was made to sign. After being tortured for four days he was made to sign a confession to murder. Manuel is in poor health.
Since his imprisonment Manuel has become the President for the Rights of Indigenous prisoners.
Manuel is being detained at the Reclusorio Preventivo Norte, J. Nuno S-N ZP14, Mexico DF, Mexico.
Or you can write to us J & R Associates, PO Box 83, Bracknell, Berkshire, RG12 QH.
