Ratzinger recovers from Alpine fall

CARDINAL Joseph Ratzinger, the head of the Vatican's Congregation for the Doctrine of the Faith, was released from hospital this week after being treated for a fall in the Italian Alps.
The 65-year-old cardinal was admitted to the provincial hospital in the mountain town of Bressanone after he fell and cut his head.
A spokesman for Cardinal Ratzinger in the Vatican reported last Monday that the prelate was in good spirits and was making good progress.
An earlier statement issued by the Bressanone health authorities said the cardinal had been kept in hospital for observation. He had been knocked unconscious by the fall.
Cardinal Ratzinger is the Vatican's watchdog on matters of doctrinal orthodoxy.
